Roof Types

Sloped, Mansard, and Profile roofs can be created using this utility.
  • Sloped Roofs — Sloped roofs are composed of forms having upper and lower planes that are parallel. These roofs are sometimes referred to as Slanted roofs. This placement option enables you to create common residential and industrial roof forms such as gables, butterfly, hip, and mansard roofs.
  • Mansard and Gambrel Roofs — Mansard and Gambrel roofs are placed the same way as sloped roofs.

The difference between a mansard and a gambrel roof is, the mansard roof is sloped on all sides. The ends of the gambrel roof end with walls that extend vertically up to the ridge line.

Sloped roofs share many of the same parts contained in mansard and gambrel roofs. The following diagram shows many of the parts of a mansard roof. The Roof Builder tool settings window contains settings options and toggles for many of these parts.

  • Profiled Roofs — Arcs, lines, curves, and circular shapes can be used to create profiled roofs. The uses for profile roofs are as unlimited as the profile shapes used to create them. They can be used to create a simple canopy over an entrance, or a complex roof created with arc profiles. These profiles are extruded along a path which may be composed of one or more segments (both linear and curved).
